Hi Guys,
I wanna buy my brother a camera.
He doesnt know anything about photography, but he said he might be interested to learn.
Now I dont know which camera is good for him, either "better" P&S camera which has a manual setting (Canon Powershot A75, A80, etc, not even a "Powershot G" series) which can be bought for under $100 or a DSLR (might be a Rebel XT/350D) which most likely cost me in around $300-400 range.
I dont really concern about the money, Im more thinking of the risk, just in case he never learn photography,so I just dont waste my money.
Some opinion maybe Guys ?

Thx

canondslr,
Well of course it is really up to you....
I suggest a DSLR, it has full auto mode so it can be a big P&S but if your brother enjoys using, it can grow with him. I am assuming you have a DSLR yourself? ??? If so then help and talk can be very similar as your brother learns ;)

If he enjoys it, it just might be worth the cost ;)
Good Luck with it :)

You can get an excellent S5 for under $350 and it is really wonderful. It has a lot of manual capabilities and an insane zoom. I recommend that to anyone who wants the images to have wonderful quality, but don't want to mess with DSLR lenses and learning. Look at the Canon S series and you may choose to do that. My friend just uses P or auto and takes amazingly good pictures. I think she shot about 5000 images this last year.

maybe I'm having some depression era thoughts but I'd say go the less expensive route first, see if there is in fact an interest, before laying out the dough. A really good P&S will allow him to learn and have enough flexibility. However if he doesn't get as into as hoped, then he's still got a mighty fine P&S and can still take some good shots.

Plus, this way you can afford to throw in some great books too. ;)

I'd throw my vote in for a higher-end P&S. G-, A-, or S- series with manual control would do just fine. I'd personally find a DSLR a bit intimidating if I were starting out, particularly the lower-end models whose controls I've always found a bit complicated.

Thanks Guys for the responds.
The thing is he is in another country, I will get him a camera and when Im visiting him soon, I'll bring it with me and left it there.
So, I think I'll go with a "better" P&S camera route.
Thanks again Guys....
