Hey all!

So I'm trying to find a new camera bag for my Canon 40D, and I want one just like my really old bag I use for my 35mm Camera. Well, I was wondering what kind of bag my 35mm camera is in? Who made it? Everyone I have talked to doesn't know, but my dad said he got it in the 80's. I am stuck between the National Geographic Medium shoulder bag and Domke Bags...it's hard to choose because i'm judging them from photos instead of them in front of me...

Below are photos of my old bag.

Outside of the bag:

First large compartment, the divider can't be taken out and I have my 35mm on one side, filters and cleaning stuff on the other side:

Rear compartment, again, the dividers can't be taken out, and it can only hold 4 lenses:

Thanks for the help!!!

its looking like a Billingham...but I guess it's probably not. Have you ever heard about those, they're great -but expensive-

I'd go with the Domke bag instead of NG tho:)

I have one almost just like that! By almost, mine doesn't have the 2 pockets on the outside, mine has 1 that runs full lenght. Mine is the same bag as yours. Color of the fabric, and the straps is exact. I bought mine in the 80's sometime, and it's still carrying my Canon A-1.

Mine has a tag inside that says Made in Tiawan. R.O.C.
That's all the info I can find. No other markings.

Joe

12Wyoming can you post a photo of it? I would like to see it.

prinspaul, I have heard of the billingham bags and I just did a quick search on them. It does have some similarities to them, but I doubt it is.

I might get the Domke bag, the reviews have been a lot of help on this forum, but I still don't know which one to get. Something that is similar in size to my old 35mm bag and compartment space would be great!

So I ordered the Domke F-2. It seemed to be the only one there that will fit my needs. I do not have a lot of equipment, but I also don't have nothing...haha. I like the Domke more then the NG because I can acesses my camera better from it, plus it's nothing too fancy...Although in the future I may get one of the NG Back Packs that I can't seem to stop drooling over... :P

Anyways, thanks for the help. I asked my Dad again about the Bag. He told me the story on how he got it. Back in the 80's when he and my Mom lived in Baltimore they went to Ritz Camera. He bought the Pentax Super ME which came with 2 Lenses. Since he bought the Camera and the 2 lenses, he had a coupon for 50% off any other lens so he bought a Telephoto Lens. With that Telephoto Lens the owner for the store at that time said he could pick any bag he wanted for free since he just bought a bunch of camera stuff. So he picked the one shown above, he said he doesn't know what kind it is still, argh.

fireplug, what are the dimensions of the bag you posted? I can't really tell from the pictures but it seems to me like it's a good bit smaller than an F-2. Did you look at the F-4AF or did you want something bigger? The F-4 is a great bag - I looked at it today and am definitely going to pick one up.

Yea, the F2 is a bit bigger then that bag, but my Canon 40D is also a bit bigger then my Pentax Super ME ;)

I looked at the F-4AF, and I was going to get that one but I wanted a bit more space for lenses/another camera body. The F-2 should suit my needs for what I need.

The dimensions on my Bag above is APPROX 12"x8.5"x9" (LxWxH)

12Wyoming- Wow that's pretty funny! That is pretty much identical to my bag!

Gotcha, yeah the 40D would be a pretty tight fit in that bag. Enjoy the F-2, I'm sure you'll love it.

Btw I did a quick Google search for "vintage 80s camera bags" and nothing came up that looks like your bag!

You'll enjoy the Domke F2. I have three Domkes and they durable usable bags.

I have that exact same bag except mine is all brown leather instead of the blue. Was a good bag, I just out grew it.

I must say, I'm really curious for you to solve this mystery and figure out what kind of bag this is...

My bag has a tag in it! I found it today after work. It says "Made in Taiwan"

Doesn't help though. :(

This bag is probably a generic Ritz Bag or something.

**Sits and waits for his Domke**

Nice bag... love that vintage look! :D
I'm looking for something like that myself that doesn't scream camera bag - something plain and minimalistic and preferably has a premium vintage look because I like to dress vintage

Fireplug -

Just a thought, and now I am curious toooo, why don't you email Ritz Camera, tell them the story your dad told you, and perhaps there is still some employee at Ritz old enough to remember what this bag is and the make, and you can get a lead of what it is....

:D
