? 4 N. Texas Zoo Goers

Which of these zoos would be the best for shooting and having good access to a variety of wildlife - Ft. Worth, Dallas, or Tyer zoos?

Tony, I have been to both the Dallas and Tyler zoos. The Dallas zoo has habitat type pens as does Tyler as well as the traditional enclosures. The Tyler zoo used to be free but I haven't been there in about 10 yrs. Some of Dallas' habitat areas (gorillas come to mind) had too much vegetation to really see the animals well but I haven't been there in about 10 yrs either.

I'm not familiar with the Tyler Zoo. Ft Worth and Dallas have similar collections and have large habitat-type exhibits, but the sight-lines at Ft Worth tend to be much better. [edit: as of about 2 years ago.]

I ended up going to the Ft. Worth zoo yesterday, along with every other kid in the state of Texas on spring break. :-/

But the weather was beautiful and the zoo really was nice. Just wish papa lion had been a bit more enthusiastic. He was the one guy I wanted to shoot. (with my camera) :-)

The flamingos are kind of fun to photography, as were other birds there.

Anyway, it was fun going on my own 'mini-safari'.

No contest, the Fort Worth Zoo is far superior then Dallas or Tyler, but for a real Safiri experience go to Fossil Rim in Glen Rose its awsome.
