Seems to be some problem with your focus. Did you leave the lens on manual by accident? Half press and hold while moving in or out? Or have a non-central focus point set (no spot metering on your camera that could reach between these ladies)?
More generally, I think your post-processing improves the result, but it's going to look like a snap shot from any old camera when they're sitting there posing and you're standing in the usual position doing the usual compositional thing. If you're expecting something distinctly DSLRish, you probably want to stand back, zoom in, use a shallow depth of field (carefully), avoid having the garden wall running through their heads, tell them to lose the mobiles, maybe get down lower if you can still get a good background etc..

You may also want to avoid shooting straight down their tops (unless that's the look you're going for of course).
