After falling for the Holga, I dusted off my old AE-1 and tossed it in my bag with the 50mm. It stays there and comes out for that 'film' shot!
As I'm currently in Houston cleaning out my parent's home (recently passed), I've taken a trip down memory lane -- mom was a pack rat!
Anyway, I found the old manuals for the AE-1! What a hoot!
Get this:
"The Canon AE-1 represents a landmark in the history of SLR cameras. Up to now, electronic control in SLR cameras was limited, for example, to the mechanism that decides exposure, but the AE-1 is the first camera in the world to incorporate a CPU by means of which automatic exposure, memoery (sic), tranmission of signals, display, regulation of time and completion signal are all electronically controlled. It is an entirely new kind of SLR camera."

I think it still holds the record for most produced SLR!! BTW does your shutter squeel?

I still remember lusting after AE-1s as a kid - even though I'd never touched an SLR and wouldn't have had a clue about how to use one. I think I still have some National Geographics from the 80's with AE-1 ads in them.

You MUST be a photographer if you were looking an NG for the camera ads.... lol

I thought you guys were looking at shots of the natives!
No, the AE-1 doesn't squeal, but it's been fun to have in my bag! Biggest slap in the face is holding down the shutter and having that fleeting thought run through my head: "what's wrong with the shutter, why isn't it firing!?"
I also found some other pamphlets which have made it to a box, somewhere. I should stumble across them again, there were some funny 'cartoons' in them!

I love the AE-1. I plan on shooting with it quite a bit as soon as finals are over. Such a great camera!

Without looking or thinking on it too hard, what's missing from those mags?

No URLs... ;)
I was looking through a 1984 issue not too long ago and it struck me that there wasn't a single web address anywhere in the magazine.

I have one(AE-1) in the closet somewhere, still in mint condition with a 50mm 1.2

Well, yeah, there's a reason for that...

I'm aware of that, thanks... :p
It's still a little jarring though because of how pervasive it is now.
