My 10D suffered all last year with a sticky shutter button. Annoying, but it didnt stop me from taking pics.

Tonight I ventured into the unknown to fix it.

Despite the procedure looking a bit scary it was pretty easy and I was done in about 20 minutes.

Anyone else who may attempt it heres my tip- Watch the two rear buttons on the camera top. They can fall out, but if they are in place you need to take a little care when sliding the top back on.

I'm ready to hit the track this weekend!

So why was it sticking? What did you do to fix it? Congrats on your success.

So you took your camera apart? Find a nasty booger in there? ;)

So, this brings up the obvious question........

Where were your hands before handling the camera?:p

This could get real bad, real fast:lol:

Congrats on the fix. It really is not as hard as most think to fix most things.

LOL, I've found quite a few of those on the LCD.. sheesh, I hope they don't start migrating into the buttons.

Hope that any further, camera, flash,or lens repairers out there have a spare camera to record stage by stage pics to post.

that's nasty! have to start thinking about the hazards of handling another person's camerahttp://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/tongue3.gifhttp://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gifhttp://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/tongue3.gifhttp://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

Unh... all the boogers were on the outside! :)

I did find some sort of white grease under the button, that had hardened. I cleaned it and the dust and crud out of the recess and all was good. Even the e-clip was cooperative and didn't disappear into an alternative universe.

One amusing semi-shocker was after removing the back cover, the review LCD was exposed. Around its frame was a big "SONY." I guess some competitors can get along.

Cool. Yeah, I have seen photos of disassembled EOS cams and Canon does use Sony LCD's in all their EOS cameras.

good to see that you managed to do it ;)

i hope the capacitor didn't give you to much trouble.

Capacitor? what zzzzzzzzzzzaaapppppp!

I only hold onto those with one hand so they can't get me. (:

Those flash capacitors are amazing things. When shorted they give a spark and a crack MUCH better than any electric fence:D :D
I have been zapped by a one, oddly it felt rather lame -i'm guessing they only give a few hundred volts but at a relatively high amperage(?)
It was way different to the very high volts/very low amps of a typical electric cattle fence

A pro camera repair friend explained it to me in terms of the micro farads of the capacitor,he was basically saying the numbers were too small to do any real damage to a human.
I THINK he was saying the burst is too short-i get confused with electronics:oops:

the capacitor is 310 volts and LOW amperage!

the higher the amperage the more dangerous it is.

I was speaking a relative sense-an electric fence is in the order of 3000-8000 volts with VERY low amperage.Common arc welders have very a low voltage but huge amps-about 50-200.
Camera flashes seem to be in the middle somewhere-similar to a wall socket
