I have the Canon S230 (which burned a pretty big hole in my pocket) but am having trouble figuring out the differences between these manual settings?
In taking low-light shots, what is the diff between
1. exposure level
2. ISO
3. shutter speed
I know what the technical explanations for these are, but I'd like to know how do they affect low light shots in laymen terms, and what differences in effect do they have?
Very confused :(

I also have the S230 (great camera) and I find this site to be most helpful;
http://www.canon.co.jp/Imaging/PSS230/index-e.html
Just pick whatever subject you want on the left side of the page and it gives explanations in laymen terms.
Hope this helped and happy holidays!

Thanks MacGordon, I found the same for my S30 from your link. A good online manual.
What I am really looking for is a set of practical examples on when you would use each of the different parameters. For example, when you would change exposure compensation or flash exposure? Anyone know of a site or book?

thanks alot too, Mac :)
bump on this question. It's been on my mind too!
It's hard to figure out when to adjust compensation, ISO speed and shutter speed too. Usually I have to experiment around with a combination of all of them to get an ideal shot
