I'm considering getting the Lowepro Nova 180 AW for my first camera bag for my first DSLR (EOS 50D).

Anyone have, heard, or know if these bags are anygood. I can get the 180 for about $79. I'd get it in chestnut as I love the color than just the plain black which is sort of boring.

All I need to do is it to hold my 50D, 2-3 lenses down the road and a flash, an extra battery, along with some memory cards, etc. It seems like it will do this.

Does this zip up at the top or is it just a flap or is it both? I'm not a fan of just the flap, my last bag did this and stuff would sneak out of the sides.

To me they seem like a good starter bag for someone with not much equipment and reasonably priced. I know down the road I'll get something more elaborate but for now it seems fine. Figure I'd just get some second or third opinions. Thanks.

This is the bag I'm talking about:

I have the NOVA 5 bag and I really like it a lot. I use it as my second bag when I shoot events. It's both zip and clasp over the front. It's very good in the rain, has a rain cover that goes over the whole thing. For the gear you are taking, it should not be too heavy and I do like all the extra pockets and zipped areas.

I have a Nova 4 - its a real nice bag. I like it a lot, its easy to get stuff in and out of and looks sharp enough for formal events - and yet is pretty rugged, has good padding and weather resistant :-) It zips and snaps like Suzy mentioned - really convenient and secure.

Its not what i would call a "low-profile" bag as it keeps its same rectangular shape all the time and looks like typical camera bag. It sure is a convenient design!

I had a Nova 3 aka "The Cooler" as that's what they look like. Here's the review. It wasn't bad bag and did an excellent job at the beach because there was no way for sand to get in. Zipped at the top and the padding was thick at the bottom so setting in the sand was fine.

The Nova series are super bags, any of them. The flap buckles down for quick access, but the top underneath can be zipped completely closed.

I actually prefer the Stealth Reporter series, which is the same shape, but only available in black, as far as I know.

The NOVA series of Lowepro bags are awesome. However if you get one of the larger ones and really load it up with gear IMO they get too heavy too fast for a single shoulder and for me really hurt to carry after a short while. I had the same problem with slingshot style bags. So unless you already have a good backpack, Id consider going that route first.

i agree - my storage and transit bag is a ThinkTank backpack... its not too difficult to overload a Nova 4...
