This is an 8 shot stack and I'm pretty pleased with it! :D

I'm itching to get out in the garden with it too!

Very nice, you just need to crop the borders off the first shot that the stacking process adds.

Oh yes, thanks for pointing that out - I didn't notice in my keenness!

*edit* I have re-uploaded and replaced it - better now I think!

Excellent stack demo - assume you used a smaller aperture for the single shot ?

MichaelGreen78,
Great shots....I am really interested in the Macro world and I am looking to get the same lens and I am glad that the lens can take shot like the one you took. In your post, what do you mean by "8 shot stack".....Sorry I'm a newb

Thanks Jax,

Brian (LordV) is the authority on stacking but essentially, an 8 shot stack is a composite image made by combining 8 different photos. Because depth of field is very narrow at macro distances it is difficult to get everything in focus with just 1 shot.

This is one of the 8 photos that were combined (stacked) to make the image in the first post above:

See how there is not so much in focus? I therefore took 8 photos, adjusting focus back a little for each subsequent shot. All photos were shot in M, all settings the same and with consistent lighting (2 flashguns either side) to make sure that the stack would look correct when combined.

There's more info if you follow the link below and click on Exercise #3

(ps, don't apologise for being a newb! I didn't know how to do it either until 2 weeks ago!) :D

MichaelGreen78,
I am looking to get the same lens

Don't forget to check out the Lens Archive thread for this lens: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=229362 which has some cracking shots in too. It also shows that it is capable of some non-macro shots too. It's awesome for portraits I found out this weekend.
