I have been considering attending a 2-day workshop on lighting techniques, and wonder if gurus on this forum would share their experience about such workshops? Thanks.

Here is a sample of my amateur skills (in case site asks for password: "yale"):

Yes, I would agree. If you name the workshops you are considering there is a chance a POTN members has attended the same workshop and can comment about it.

I am not familiar with the photographer, but wanted to chime in.
Glancing through is bio, it is clear that he has been around photography and has formal training. I would not doubt his knowledge and abilities in lighting. The tuition and fees are very reasonable(actually, quite inexpensive) for someone with his experience. I guess, you already know that he is a fashion/commercial guy, which is your area of interest, too?

As I've hinted in the prior post, I'm sure you'll get much out of the workshop(especially if you consider yourself a relative beginner in lighting.) Even though Kawa's specialty is towards fashion; lighting theories and techniques will translate to portraiture.

Just as an FYI, there are many workshops held throughout the US, geared towards a specific area of photography, style, and level of expertise. Good sources to find such information are: PDN Magazine (PDN Online (http://www.pdnonline.com/pdn/index.jsp)), Rangefinder Magazine (http://www.rangefindermag.com/)(WPPI), Professional Photographer Magazine(PPA (http://www.ppa.com)), and other professional sources. Many of the professional photography tradeshows(national and state level) hold some good workshops, too.
