1D3 and UDMA?

I am looking at buying a few Sandisk Extreme IV 8MB UDMA cards for my 5D MKII. But I am also going to buy a 1DIII soon. Will the UDMA cards work in the MKIII?

They'll work, but the 1D3 isn't UDMA, so they won't give you the full speed potential.

You will also need a UDMA card reader to take advantage of the speed.

Unless you're going to be shooting rapid fire bursts, in which case the buffer may clear a tad quicker should you even fill it, you will not notice a difference between Extreme III or the IV.

However, there is a huge difference in speed when uploading pics from the IV vs. the III when using the Extreme IV firewire card reader, on the order of a third faster.

So, if you have an 8gb card filled, it will take about three minutes with a IV card and the extreme reader; whereas, a III card even in the extreme firewire reader will take upwards of nine minutes. Did I say a third faster? I think it's more like almost two thirds faster. That is a huge difference in my book.

they'll work but you don't need them. i have extreme III 20s and 30s as well as extreme IVs. the extreme III 20s work as well as anything in my 1d mark III as far as i can tell.

now, the 1ds mark III is a different story (5d II also). you'll want UDMA or you'll see a noticeable drop-off in performance.
