Can anyone identify the lens used on the weapon in the movie The Jackal? I have included some screenshots from the DVD to refresh your memory. Thanks in advance!

EF 600 1:4 L?
I admit that I was paying more attention to the other hardware mounted to that camera :D
Best regards,

The 500mm image is not the same as the one at the top of the thread, which looks like a 600 to me. Look at the hood.

The tripod ring rules the 600mm F4L out

The date rules the 500mm F4 L IS and the 600mm F4 L IS out - they were both released in 1999 and The Jackal is 1997
So the only possible lens is the 500mm F4.5 L
And looking at the switches they all look right for the 500mm F4.5 L.

I agree with kawter & richard, definitely not the new long IS's, & with the bent tripod mount, can only be the 500.

A better question would be what on earth is that lens attached to?

A remote, laptop controlled killing machine/huge gun.

Good question. If I were a betting man, I would say he took Polish made soviet design of ZPU anti aircraft gun. AKA zenitka.
They usually come in multiples of 4, for better fire rate. :p

BTT: What's interesting about he movie, is that the lens is a zoom AND both the zoom and AF rings rotate by themselves. :D

What's funny is that I just watch this movie a couple of weeks ago and was meaning to ask the same question. I guess now I know what lense it is.

The real important thing is that it is Canon and not another manufacturer. LOL :)
