I started subscribing to Digital Photography Pro and just got my first copy. It reviewed Canon's DPP and gave it a good review. The author stated something to the effect that it was good to use the camera makers software because they know their product. I have never even installed Canon's DPP because I have been alternating between Photoshop's, LaserSoft's DCPro, and Capture One. I'm new to RAW and it interests me. I shoot with a 20D. Do you folks agree with the reviewer? I would appreciate any imput. I love photography, but I also enjoy the computer, so I don't have a problem playing with the images. I don't shoot Pro anyway, so it's not like I have thousands of images to worry about, but occasionally I screw up and get a really good shot. When I do I would like it to be in the RAW format so I can get it just right, blow it up real big and use it to replace that big black velvet picture of Elvis that my wife has hanging up on the mantle between the two Matador Swords and Shields!

I say go for it! I use PSCS for my raw pic and would not consider using some form of raw manipulation program. Reason I use PSCS over DPP is that most of the time I am going to tweak it beyond the scope of DPP. I have used DPP and think it is a good program, I just have much more experience using PSCS. By all means get rid of those velvet pics asap. Taking time to learn DPP will be rewarding in itself, even if you decide not use use it in the future.

Well, you your DPP for free with your 20D. What's stopping you to install it and try it out? If you don't like it, you can just uninstall it again. It's best to find out for yourself if you like it or not...

Thanks for the help. I was beginning to think I was going to have to post some question about the difference of the degree of sharpness between two or three L-series lenses to get any replies from the forums! Nice guitar Dante! Been playing myself for over thirty years! Getting old. Got my first AARP piece of junk mail the other day. Threw it away. In denile I guess, but what the hey! Every emotionally healthy person ought to be in denile about a few things. Too much reality can be devistating! Thanks again.

replace that big black velvet picture of Elvis that my wife has hanging up on the mantle between the two Matador Swords and Shields! Let's see... yep! Atlanta! :D:D
The author stated something to the effect that it was good to use the camera makers software because they know their product. I'm using RawShooter 'cause I have PS7 at home & I like it a lot. Once did a search , & found (somewhere) a comparison of RAW processors, but it didn't say a lot about that that was meaningful to my question. Take a look at this - there may be links.
