Just got my nifty fifty today and it really is true. The amount of bokeh is awesome at 1.8 though it can be tough to get an entire face in focus , the DOF is just that shallow. LEt me know how I did. the color might be crap as my monitor is not calibrated. thanks

Colour? Good one!!
Nice shot. I love the clarity and the bokeh of that lens. I've only played with mine indoors so far. How far were you away?

Color...isnt gray a color, or some sort of philosophical fight gonna break out?? lol what I meant was I hope the skintone isnt too gray as i cant see what it really looks like. I was standing about 10 feet or so from him. this shot is slightly cropped as I wanted to shift him to the side, but taking the photos i had selected single point focus (center point) cause with the aperture set at 1.8 the depth of field is so short that you need to literally focus that dot between his eyes or everything gets messed up..

You are going to love this lens. You can change the f/stop to really control the DOF. Dont forget the to use the DOF preview button on your cam to double check focus and DOF. Congrats on the lens and the pic!

Whooohooo! Glad I could help. Its really a no brainer, even for an old dog like me to recommend this lens. Start saving for the 85mm 1.8.......LOL The usm on th e85 is killer as i a bit of longer reach. I have been loving both the 50 and 85 primes lately.

Good grief, the specs on that thing say it weighs 4.6 pounds. That can't be true......
Nice picture and the DOF works wonderfully with it.

60 vs 75 bucks. Not worth it to me. Id rather pay the 75 and get a brand new unused one. plus youll have a warranty. jmo. either way GET IT!! youll love it.:)

bokeh is term for the blurry background and the quality of it. it really is what makes people say wow. i know i do, and if you looka t most portrait photos (good ones) they all use this feature. it makes your subjects pop.:)
