In Northern California, the Rufous is known only as a migrant, so probably caught her on her way to the coast. Breeds as far north as southern Alaska, extending southward throughout most of the Pacific Northwest.

Nice shots, BD. Great color as well. It was actually your post that got me excited about seeing some hummer pics. They pose a natural challenge for photographers: do you try to stop the wing action or use the blur of their wings to bring the image alive? There's no one way that's best. If you get more good ones I hope you'll post 'em. I have a number of different ones from my recent trip to Tucson and I'll post one a day or so to keep the thread alive long enough so others may notice it. There are enough occasional hummingbird images posted that this could be a nice thread for folks. Sort of like those full moon images that pop up occasionally - would be nice to have a bunch of them in one place to make it easy for those looking for help, examples or inspiration.
