I am looking at getting one of these bags as a travel bag and have a few quick questions:
-Is it a good bag to work from? I will be using it as a holiday/sightseeing bag so will be accessing stuff fairly often. I will be carrying a D90 with 18-200 attached, a 50mm, 10-20mm, SB800 and a small jvc camcorder. The reason I'm going for the larger one is to hopefully have some room left over to carry non-camera stuff.
-Would the above mentioned kit be too heavy/bulky to carry around all day and hence am I bettor off looking at a backpack.?
If i were to get a backpack it would be the TT Streetwalker Pro or Harddrive, the Crumpler Karachi Whickey & Cox, the Lowepro Flipside 400AW. The Shape Shifter is nice but c'mon..$470 AUD for a bag?

The UD50 appealed to me for its lockable zippers, slide over luggage handle feature and well organized pockets.
Note laptop storage is nice but not essential. Would only be putting lappy in here in transit/through airports, rest of the time it will be locked in hotel.

cheers,

matt.

I use UD60. I mainly use it for 2 purpose:

1) transport bag. Because it can carry lots of camera gears or personal item + laptop. I found its deasign is ideal for air traveling. I usually bring a carry-on size roller (store in overhead bin) and UD60 as my personal item (store under seats)

2) out of a dedicated photo shoot session. I can fit 2 bodies both with lens attached (One of them with 70-200 f2.8IS), 2 flashes, and some misc items. I usually won't bring laptop in this case. The thing I like about UD series the most is that it still look very low profile for the amount of stuff it carries.

Now back to OP's quesiton, I think UD50/60 may not be the best choice for sightseeing/a walk in the city type of usage. They are NOT very small. When they get loaded up, they get heavy. Also, both 50 and 60 have laptop slot. This makes them thicker than necessary (if you don't need to carry a laptop). I say UD40 would be a better walk around shoulder bag. It should hold all you gears and it is smaller and thinner than 50/60.

My thoughts on the UD50:

I would probably say it is a bit heavy for using as a sightseeing/etc. bag. It is an awesome bag, but I would much rather have the 6MDH which is just a bit smaller and easier to carry around (about my max for a sightseeing type bag).
