If a restaurant assks me to shoot their products for their menu and advertising, does it seem fair to charge this:

$15/ hour to shoot and edit
plus $6 per photo wanted on a CD?

Basically, I would shoot and edit and then they would choose the images that they wanted and I would charge them by that.

Ideas?

Thanks

Seems REALLY cheap to me. Say you spend three hours shooting, that's $45. And then they select 20 pictures to use. That's $120. You just made $165 for quite a bit of work. Wouldn't be worth it to me. They'll be happy to pay you though!

I shot wood fired ovens in restaurants for the company that supplies the specialty wood. He only wanted web size images and my rate was $65.00 per hour, including round trip travel time (CT to NY) and I thought that was a low rate but I know the person. Don't undersell yourself and consider ALL of your time and expenses. Don't forget to have them sign a property release so you can use the photos.

Í wouldn't do it for less than $35 per hour plus $10/$15 per photo.

I'd quote $200/hr, including a license to use the images in their menus and to advertise their restaurant locally. Other uses will require an additional license. I might not get the job, but if I did it would be worth my while going. At $15/hr you're wasting your time.

The funny thing is a business may well go for the quote that's much higher than the others. The high quote will likely be the seasoned professional, reliable, producing good quality work. The difference in cost between $50 and $500 for one off expenses for many businesses is irrelevant - the quality of the work is what's important.
