Where to sell general photos?

I'm a prosumer / amateur but I'd like to start selling some of my photos. Where do y'all recommend I start? iStock?

Locally to gift shops would be a much better venue, or put out flyers. Submit them to magazines and newspapers and gradaully build up your name, locally. T'is how I did. Its working well so far.
