Hey all,

You probably all have seen René's thread (Click here (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=663167)) on this same gig. In that thread I had already written down my thoughts of starting a thread myself aswell. Would be nice to share a second view on the same gig, I guess.

There was another photographer shooting for Atak that night. The guy has been photographed by René (see his thread for photos), and his photos can be found on his Flickr page, starting at this foto (http://www.flickr.com/photos/31726767@N06/3304724860/) and browsing backwards.

Well, here are some shots I took that night. More can be found at www.nouks.nl/20090221_TBDM (didn't feel like making a final selection there, so a lot to see and a lot which shouldn't be in the gallery at all).

I like the captured action that makes this set strong... #1 and #4 are my favorites... (Still think though that the guy needs to put a shirt on.)... :D

First four are pretty intense. Captured the mood well :)

That belly would give me heartburn, too! I think multiple threads by multiple photographers of the same event, or multiple photographers in the same thread of the same event is a grand idea! :-) Still, that guy needs to put a shirt on!

i find it funny that the guys who carp about shirtless dudes have no problems w/ the G&N forum. :D

6 is really good...a microcosm...you've got the singer leading the goat horn charge, the crowd willfully complying, the guitarist cranking out a riff so hard his hair is flying, but in the center of this maelstrom is a calm punter checking out the riff action intently. as all great photos do, it tells a story. 1 and 2 are in the same vein, and quality.

you are right; shooting metal bands means that if gives you a decent chance to capture the band and audience's energy.

Oooops, sorry Tim, I didn't realize that there was a comparison between between a sweaty, overweight male with beer breath to match a beer belly, supposedly doing musical entertainment in a fairly public forum versus a svelte young female posing for photographs intended to be sensuous and/or erotic or to show off fashions or themselves for that matter. I suppose, however, that with the proper set of beer goggles and interest in maleness, some may find this attractive. As I've said numerous times, I prefer my musical entertainers to be in coat and tie, or at least some outrageous costume (ie KISS.) And come to think of it, I'd be very surprised if these same guys would be more "appreciated" in G&N. :-) But I know that Boston folks are varied in their tastes and culture.:lol::lol::lol:

maybe you should tell the boxers you shoot to put on wife-beaters. :D

I gotta' admit that there is a strong resemblance between the sweaty, shirtless musicians and the sweaty, shirtless boxers ... but I think that makes my point! :-) Shouldn't you be playing with your kids instead of harassing me? And how about commenting on my Tony Bennett thread -> http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=665203?

Very strong set. You seem to be doing some damned good work for someone who doesn't like their photography! Keep this unlikeable stuff up!

The start of the set is great fun.

#1: next time in a situation like that, choose the widest thing (preferrably either the full frame 12-24 mm sigma, 15 or 8 mm fisheye) you can possibly find and go very close, after taking a few shots go even closer. Why? even in #1, you (the viewer) are an outsider, looking how others have all the fun. Why not participate?

IMHO, as always.

Thanks for the comments, guys.

Kalle, why not participate? Mostly because of this was pretty rough, and I'm just a 1.60m small girl with a big camera. I sometimes do join the club, but that's definitely something to consider when being around and in this case I wouldn't have dared it. I really wouldn't.

Besides that I could choose to take photos of the band or take photos of the audience when in between them, while combining those two is a lot easier (yes, I know the easiest isn't always the best!) when on the side. I know you combine the two from the front of the stage, but doing so without copying you would be pretty hard I guess, and besides that the last thing I would want to do is copy another.

I thought about the size (and promptly chose to ignore that factor ;)), I guess I have some advantage, being 1.95 m high, and um, usually having been home dinner time :). Then again, I have to crawl (on my hands and knees) sometimes during metal concerts in small clubs as the front row is headbanging down to below my waist level (if I was standing there), rather painful, and if I stay in front for an extended period sitting on my feet (what's the word for it, feet under me), it takes a few minutes before I can walk in a not-amusing way.

Anyway, I enjoyed these shots :).

Haha, that sounds pretty painful Kalle!

When the crowd would only have been headbanging I would have dared to be in front of them, but this was a pretty heavy moshpit (and with a lot of bottles of beer, as you can see)...

1 2 3 are very cool living captures. some best crowd shots around this forum. i'm surprised to see bottles in hands of folks in front line.
