i was looking at Photoshop elements 7 at Costco today, but my computer only is 1.79 GHz with 512MB of RAM.

Will it work with this amount? Its not what is listed on the box as the requirements.( 2GHz and 1GB RAM)

It will run, but slowly.

A more important consideration is the size of the files you will editing with it.

What camera do you have, and many photos do you tend to edit at a time?

likely only one at a time since it will run slowly
the money spent sure is adding up quickly

If you're running XP you'll probably be fine. Does Vista even run on 512MB RAM? Anyway, I run PSE 4.0 on my laptop running XP Pro with 1.5GHz CPU and 512MB RAM. I also run Adobe Premiere Elements 2.0 for video editing and it is a little slow but not terrible and it gets the job done.

I need to upgrade to a new laptop, but would rather get a 40D body instead. :)

Well, it will work, but it will be very slow, and if there is anything wrong with your PC, it will show up, as this will effectivly stress test it.

I would still get Elements, might as well if it's cheap.

But, also start saving for a new PC
