From the world of wacky
Received an email stating Canon would be adding another kit lens to the Rebel kits.
It would look something like: EF-S 18-120 f/3.5-5.6 IS
I don’t think a kit lens between the 18-55 and 18-200 would be such a bad idea.
Big grain of salt on this one and add some pepper.
I think this would be awesome! I mean, the 17-85 is great, but for this to be in a kit would be awesome.

I'm fine with Canon adding a super-zoom kit lens for the Rebel XS/1000D series.
I think they need something besides the 18-55IS & 55-250IS for this market segment.
However, I'm not sure how they'll hit the intended price point with the xxD/XSi 18-200IS super-zoom selling for $595 ($500 as part of the 50D kit) without massively under cutting it.
I find them having difficulty in hitting the ~$150-$200 price mark for a Rebel XS/1000D super-zoom kit lens as I think going much above that price will be a hard sell for the targeted audience of these bodies.
After all, these customers are typically P&S shooters who could easily get turned off on DSLR's completely, especially when they learn that decent glass cost as much (and often times MORE) than the DSLR body itself.

It was a rumor that they will lunch a new camera ... 500D, so maybe it will have a new kit lens aswell.

dunno, the 18-55 then the 55-250 covers the range well, and helps them sell more lenses. They also have an 18-200 if people want the super zoom. I think this lens would cut into the sales of the others.

i thought i read somewhere that a new ef-s lens 30 f/2 will be introduced. (why not f/1.4 if true?)

F1.4 would make it too expensive to be ef-s only, that's why. 30mm f2 would be perfect balance of speed and price, IMO. It could be priced like the new NIkon and under $250.
I really think a new prime is in the works. Stock of many 28-50mm Canon primes has been very rare for about 2 months now.
As for the 18-120 - It would be cool, but we already have that option with the Sigma 18-125 and the new Tokina 16.5-135. Canon needs to go wider than 18 since they have a 1.6 crop instead of 1.5. I wanna see a 15-50 or even 15-75 mid-range zoom.

I would be one that would get a nice all around kit of s similar range like 18-120
Tokina is coming with a 16 - 105 I think too, so a bet like this seems to be popular now
The Nikon 18-105 I believe has very good reviews and I don't see why Canon wouldn't gain from such a lens maybe replacing the 17-85 that has such a bad reputation around these forums.
I was at Disney a week ago, and I would loved to have a nice lens instead of carrying my two heavier lenses
Canon would get my money, this would be my vacation lens ;)

This sounds like the 18-200 lens that isn't that doesn't have a good body build.
