my 580ex is weird

my 580ex flash is getting a lil crazy
im using with a 1d mark 3, after getting a few shots in a normal lit room
it will suddenly fire at full power, and its setting will go to TTL function
and if i wan to change it back on my mark3, i can't
i have to switch on and off, for both cam and flash till it goes back to normal
this problem have been happening on and off

any idea on what is happening? :confused:

TTL means it isn't communicating properly with the camera. TTL is film only and will fire the flash at full power.

It sounds like you need to check the hotshoe contacts for looseness, corrosion, dirt, etc.
