Above is a pic of my LowePro MiniTrekker AW. Compared to the Crumpler, I beleive it offers superior weather proofing, more sophisticated storage of misc loose items and can be worn as a back pack or a sling. However, it is not as handsome as my bright red Crumpler and the Crumpler is far easier to use for quick access to lens and gear. I also find the Crumpler more ergonomic for me to carry. I am only 5' tall and ease of carry is critical for me.
Both currently hold the following easily: 18-55 kit lens, 70-200L, 480EX flash, 50mm prime, and misc items such as a small notebook, data cards, lens cleaner and so on.

Above is a picture of my husband carrying my Crumpler. He is 6' tall and handles it easily. I can too, but I'm lazy and like to have him tote it for me. :D
For a simple trip to the zoo in good weather, I'd pick the Crumpler. I'd also pick the Crumpler if I knew I would be changing lens frequently and rapidly. For a trip to a dusty rodeo, windy beach or stormy nature trek, definitely the LowePro. Oh, and you can carry the LowePro as either a sling or a backpack.
I like both bags. But they serve different purposes and I admit, the Crumpler, for it's fun color and zippy design, is my favorite.
