If you are trying to shoot in the Green Box mode, then you are stuck. That is fully automatic, but not very flexible.

Instead, if you go to P mode, then the camera will offer up more than one exposure solution shown in the viewfinder. By dialing the front dial, you can select which one of those solutions gives you the aperture you seek.

If you're in the P(Program) mode, on page 67, read about "Shifting the Program". This may accomplish what you want. You may also want to look at Av(Aperature Priority) mode on page 70.
Are you wanting to adjust the aperature (f stop) to change the exposure or to get more or less depth of field (how much is in focus) in the image?

Or you could load the manual to the PC and search for 'aperture'. The word is used 66 times in the manual. Surely one of those references will tell you how to set it.....or you could hold the Av button (to the right of viewfinder) while turning the dial (in manual mode). But load the manual anyway. Searching a PDF doc is a lot faster than thumbing thru the manual.
