Grainy Pictures (PowerShot S330)

Hello,

I've been using my PowerShot S330 (at least I think this is the model name in North America. In Europe the camera is called IXUS 330) for over a year and I think it is absolutely a great digital camera.

In the last couple of months it appears that my pictures, especially of people, are grainy. At first I thought that maybe they were always that grainy and that I just didn't notice before. I removed this doubt by recently looking at photos I took of people about a year ago and compared them side-by-side with recent similar photos and noticed that the photos from a year ago are not at all grainy like the recent photos.

I would greatly appreciate some advice. Have I been recently using the camera with some incorrect setting when taking pictures of people indoors? Any other explanations?

Are you sure that you have set highest resolution and smallest compression? Check your settings again. Another possibility is setting the film speed too high, which would also increase grain.

I agree with the previous contributor. Make sure your ISO setting is not above 50 for indoor shots. If you are just using normal indoor lights, keep the ISO setting to 50 as any setting above this will give you grainy pictures. Are you using the flash aswell? I can't think of anything else at the moment as to what might be causing it.
