View Full Version : Good news pics of Iraq

Some folks expressed interest in seeing more "good news" pics from Iraq, so here are some. Unfortunatly the quality wasn't very good, I was on Goverment time when I was taking these and the Air Force was forcing me to use their junk camera.

The first few are of humanitarian assistance food deliveries. I won't get on a soap box on media not showing the good things we're doing, but here is some evidence for you to make up your own mind.

The next series is just to give you the flipside of what the enemy is doing.
the first pic is of a mosque in Fallujah. It was being used as a weapons storage area and as an improvised explosive device (IED) factory. A clear violation of international treaties. The next is a vehicle being turned into a car bomb, and the last is another mosque being used as a bomb factory, notice the wheelchair, it was being rigged up to be used in a suicide bombing.

Thanks for the pics. Its great to see those guys smiling there. As you say, we are entirely at the mercy of the media, most people will never really see a fair impression of Iraq at the moment.
But its good to see your pics, thanks!

...the Air Force was forcing me to use their junk camera. I'd have told then to shove it! "I don't tell you how to fly your aircraft, & you don't tell me how to take pics." But that's just my diplomacy working. ;-)

Unfortunatly, I DO tell them how to fly our aircraft!

And it was even worse that a N!k@n, an OLD olympus camedia. prob in the 1-2 MP range. But it was better than subjecting my camera to a sandstorm.

Thanks a bunch. Really appreciate seeing photos uncensored by the media. Why is it the national media doesn't show this stuff? Just what is their agenda?

I think every generation of media producers thinks the way to fame and fourtune is to try a different tactic every time there is a war. So we end up with peaks and valleys when it comes to getting support from them. They supported the country during WWII, didn't support us (probably justly) during Vietnam, supported us again in Desert Storm, didn't support Somolia, supported Afghanistan, and now they are back to critizing this war in Iraq. Its all a game for ratings for them.

Personally I don't think a camera forum is a place for politics.....I come here to get away from that stuff....But hey...that's just my opinion...Yours may differ.

Keep 'em coming! Politics aside, there are some awesome photo ops there (although I couldn't bring myself to take my camera there, damned sand gets in everything!!!!!). If it happens your photos show something other than what the media is trying to put forth, so be it! There's 3 sides to every story!

AF-NCO, thanks for posting the pictures. Do you have a gallery of photos from Iraq?

To every one else leave the bickering out of the forum before this thread gets locked like the gun thread.

Great pics. Please keep them coming. I'm very tired of the current media views on Irag. It is nice to here some of the good news for a change.

All righty, thats about all I can take...one minded?

Sorry if I'm not being PC enough by calling the folks who cut little children's stomachs open to shove explosives inside them something other then "bad guys". I'll try to be more respectful of the small safe world some people like to live in.

Listen, there are good people in the world and there are bad people in the world. Is the US always the good guys? Hell no. But I've never been ordered to do any of the sick, inhuman things that happen on a daily basis by the people I call my enemy.

Now I'm sure you'll reply with plenty of instances that US foreign policy "forced" these types of people to react against the US and its allies. All I can say is that they really don't give a damn about our economics, they are made at us because we do strange and terrible things like letting women talk in public, get an education and vote.

But what scares me most about the world we live in today ISN'T the people who commit these crimes against humanity. No, there will always be people willing to put on a uniform and speak words like duty, honor and integrity. They will be willing to put their lives on the line to stop it. What worries me is the people who would rather stick there heads under a rock and let it happen without saying a word.

Thats the end of my rant. My apologies to the moderators, and everyone else who didn't need the soapbox speech. Moderators, you can rest assured I will stick to posting pics that are considered safe and cozy from now on.

There was no politics involved in this thread until you brought up politics. All that was done was pics have been posted of what a person saw while in Iraq, and a brief (couple of words) description of what is in the photos.

The most political point expressed in this tread is that the western media has displayed an inconsistent approach to how they have reported wars over the last 60 years.

Get a life and save your soap box for when someone actually makes a political statement.

IMHO the photos were posted with an absolute minimum of "spin". If AF-NCO was there and saw things that were happening and had the good fortune to be able to photograph it and make a record of the events, then why should he not be able to post pics of it.

I would be more than happy for Iraqi people to post pics of what is happening there as well... from either side... especially if they did it in the same low key un-inflamatory style that AF-NCO did.

AF-NCO: Unless it is determined by the moderators that the pics are not suitable for this forum, I hope you do continue to post them.
