Hello, I have a D-30 and am taking it to the Yucatan Peninsula for 3 weeks. I am curious to know if I can take compact flash cards through the x-ray machines in airports and if it will harm them. I would like not to take a heavy laptop with me, just a bunch of CF cards. I am going to be out in the very rural areas and probably not around any internet cafes so was just going to use up the cf cards and bring them home with files on them. Should I take the laptop or will it be okay? Thanks for any advice. I'm pretty much a newbie when it comes to photography of any sort. Kathy

Their should be no problem taking your cf cards through security checked or carry on. They are not - to my understanding - suseptable to x-ray transmission. Just as you would have no problem passing your lap top through you should not have the same with your cards.
