I took this series of photos with my Canon S500's stitch feature and some editing in PSP9. The original image after stitching is 16 MB and 18150x1769 pixels.:D Unfortunately the stitching software that came with my camera only lets you export your images at a maximum of 200 ppi, where as the individual photos are 300 ppi.:( Anywho, when viewed at 200 ppi the whole stitch is approx. 9"x90". I am thinking about having this printed but am wary of the low ppi.

The image posted is around 1/8 the full scale one I have with 30% JPEG compression and doesn’t to the big one justice, but it is the largest I can post here.:( The editing took approx. 1-2hrs.

All comments are welcome; I really value everyone’s opinion.

Thanks

Woody

Oh and for anyone wondering, yes that is the mighty Mississippi river as seen from an undisclosed bluff in Iowa.

nice, I would bump up the saturation a bit, but I LOVE color saturated pics. Think it helps landscapes especially when it is hazy out.

That is a great stitch. I have done a few but have trouble avoiding lines running diagonally and vertically through my final image.

Could you give me some tips on taking photos to stitch together? How do go about composing each piece and do you remain stationary throughout?

Thanks

I think I could use some more saturation actually I just haven’t had time to mess with it lately, too much school. I did get a local quote for printing this weekend though and at $12 a ft^2 it is going to cost about 65$. But they can only go to 8 ft wide so I'm still looking around so I can go all 9ft.

As far as editing time it only took about 1 to 2 hrs. The stitch program that came bundled with the S500 is VERY basic but it gets the images pretty close. The stitch option on my camera helps too. After I exported it as a LARGE jpeg I opened it up in PSP9 and started going crazy . I used lots of cloning and CTRL+Z haha, but it wasn’t too bad. If you really look at it you can see where the images merge, where the image goes from out of focus all of a sudden to in focus, but just walking by that is not too noticeable.

I did not use a tripod for this stitch actually as I found if it is not set up dead on from the git go you may be rather off by the time you get to the end. And, I really didn’t expect it to turn out as it did. I just planted my feet (did not move them) and rotated my torso and adjusting the camera as close as possible to the last image taken.

Thanks for checking it out and the advice, more the merrier
