These shots were actually very simple to do. I was fairly intimidated before I started shooting, but it only took my about 3 shots to get the settings just where I needed them.
Here is a pic of the setup:

I had the smoke rising about 16-18 inches in front of the black background with my off-camera flash (with snoot) aimed at it at a 90 degree angle from my camera. I had the flash on full power, camera was at around F16 and 1/125 and ISO 100.

Beautiful. Really good job. I want to try this soon. Only critique I have is that I think there is too much candle in the last one. I understand that you want to show it but there's really too much. It takes up wayy too much of the picture.

Number 4 would be a great background on my 1280 x 1024 monitor. ;)
But really, I like them a lot. Something I will have to try sometime.
