Man this has been a fun week, I'm adding equipment all over the place. Yesterday a co-worker and I went to a small local shop where I picked up the BG-E1 and the 50mm f/1.8. I had no plans of getting the battery grip until my friend talked me into at least trying it at the camera shop. I put it on the dRebel and the minute I picked it up I was in love. That 50mm is quick becoming my favorite lens (for now). I was playing with it yesterday and for the first time ever saw a flashing 4000 on the display (over-exposing at 1/4000 and ISO 100).
Adding to this, today I will be receiving my Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 and I'm just itching to get out shooting with it. I'm getting it (as well as the 50mm) just in time for my kids sports seasons to start, it's going to be a fun year.
Sorry for the goofy post, I'm just so excited having all the new toys to play with that I had to let it out somewhere. ;)

Hehe, that's perfectly understandable with all that new toys :D
You'll like that nifty 50/1.8!
Best regards,

No need to apologise. We are all like little kids in the proverbial candy store when it comes to new equipment. You are alive with excitement... and that's the greatest thing about having a hobby.
Interesting to note your over-exposure warning... with my 300D I have never seen that happen. The technology is amazing and the equipment is affordable - but the lenses are definately slow unless you are prepared to spend a $1000 or more.
I have the cheap 75-300 USM for aircraft photography... and generally I am STARTING at F5.6... sigh.... your making me jealous. :p
Congratulations on the purchases.

I got a used 10d and 1.8 85. I can't stop picking them up! I did enjoy the G5, but this is sooooo much more exciting. It certainly makes you feel like a photographer – just need soemthing to photograph now... but not until I get more lenses (how can I work like this). I do want the battery grip now, but they are still over a hundred pounds and hard to justify. I grabbed some third party batteries on Ebay and they are great. Oh and a 1gig ultra II compact flash card cheap (£60 on offer – let me know if you want to know the link).
But I have a nagging feeling that I'll be all dressed up and have nowhere to go
Have fun out there.

Just stopped at home and picked up the Sigma which was delivered earlier today. Oh man am I lovin' it. That big ol' f/2.8 lens focuses faster than any other lens in my bag. Damned impressive. I think I'll be in heaven for a while, now the only dilemma is which new toy do I play with first.

I bought a Grip for my 20D and although I like the balance, it just made the camera very big and bulky.
I soooo wanted the grip before getting it....
....someone talk me into why I should keep it :-)

Really? Hmmm... I just got mine 20D this week, and yesterday shot about 250 images, only 10 or 12 with the flash, and my fully charged battery was 80% depleted. I was VERY disappointed by the battery life, compared to my 300D that this 20D replaces.
DavoMrMac, would you consider selling that grip to a listmate?

I may well still keep the grip, but I have 28 days to decide.
I just got a call saying my Manfrotto Monopod is in and my 100-400L lense, so I may take it back and have a credit against these items.
Thanks for the offer though.

Have you looked on http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=65127? They're selling them for around £70...
Got myself the grip just last week, its so much easier using it for portraits! Loving it. I played about with the Sigma 70-200 2.8 the other day too - nice feel, but I found the zoom ring to be in an awkward place with the tripod ring attached...

That's kind of funny, that's exactly why I like it. Not only does it balance the camera better but it makes if feel like a more substantial piece of equipment. Do you do portrait work? If so, would the vertical controls be enough of a reason for you to keep it? I know I've already (in just two days) grown to love having those controls (even though they're reversed from how I used to hold the camera vertical).

I love my grip and will not part with it. I love to got out into the woods and just sit and shoot for hours and with the grip I can. Yes, I do like the feel of the camera with the grip on rather than off.

I'm updating this thread with pictures from both of my new lenses (the nifty fifty and the Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 ) per SteibelDJ's request on the lens board.
Here's a shot of little league batting clinic taken with the Sigma:

And here's my Photo Friday - Plastic submission taken with the Nifty Fifty (and some closeup filters):

Feel free to pick them apart, please do let me know what you think.

Check you battery. Something goes wrong in your case.
I have a spare battery, but I have never used it. But it seems to me the maximum number of pictures I took is about 500. Usually I run out of memory before my battery is dead. :)
Some people reports up to 1000 shot from the battery. And about 750 with 50% of them with a flash.

Pay attention to your charger. When you insert the battery the red LED will flash while the battery is charging. When the red LED is lighting continuesly you must at least let the battery charge on for one other hour.
It takes a few charge and discharges cycly before the battery reach it's full powerpotential. Normaly one charge must lest about 1.000 images and about 700 whit flash. Good luck.
