Hello, I am new to the forums. I googled quite a few terms to find a forum specific to Canon cameras and found this one. I have read a few sticky's and posts from members and like the fact that all Canon cameras seem to be the subject matter here.

My questions on the SX10is that I have are...
I am pretty much set in buying this camera- I have researched for a long time and originally had 4 cameras I had decided upon and decided to go with the Canon SX10is after all reviews and such.

Am I choosing a "good to grow into" camera- (my goal)
I am not ready now nor will I ever probably choose a DSLR- I work 12 plus hours a day 6 days a week, I am a mom of 5 and my choice of cameras is based on very simply, wanting excellent photos using the small amount of know how that I have without having to change out various lens, filters, etc- I don't have the time to learn a DSLR and quite frankly, the budget.
I intend to use the best for what I need and the SX10is seems to be it. Suggestions are welcome from you all who have experience.
Also, I have been pricing for weeks! I am not an online purchaser- I am weary of purchasing and not receiving or getting something damaged and not having the situation rectified in a satisfactory manner. So local retailers are all I am looking at and of course, I am limited! Best Buy is where we buy most of our electronics and it is at $399- right now
Walmart has it for $369 but not in any stores within 100 miles from me-
Any suggestions or hints as to another good place to look or even if there is an online source that someone has had a long time relationship with and always been completely satisfied... I am open.

I will probbaly be more of a lurker here to start with- I am just a regular "Jane" and although I have a small understanding of some photography terms, I am a beginner- I will experiment quite a lot w/ shots to make sure I am choosing the best setting until I get it right-
I chose the Canon SX10is also due to it's Image stabilization, ISO capacities, the overall ability to manually change some settings rather than being locked into auto...
I like the shots I've seen people have taken of dark, low light, night time situations- as well as action shots and the everyday kid shots- I also chose for the zoom capabilities. All of my kids are in sports so I will definitely be zooming in to catch them suspended in air as they jump, leap, run, etc- I am excited to see what shots I get while in the stadium and the stadium lights are glaring at night as well as very bright sunlight.
Heck, I am excited about my choice and I guess need some justification and I am excited to have found these forums- I hope to learn a lot and eventually begin sharing my shots and even posting shots taken for a few reviews- I can take constructive criticism very well so I do welcome it -
Thx if you are still with me reading this post- I can also get somewhat long winded- If you are a member at any other boards I belong to you already know this- LOL Thanks again for any thoughts and experiences you can share on the SX10is-

Here are a couple trusted Etailers that I have used for many years:

I was also looking at the SX10 IS but it was just too big for what I would be using it for. I needed a nice zoom camera that I could keep in my top pocket. I choose to go with the upcoming Panasonic TZ7 / ZS3

Thx guys and I appreciate such quick responses- I didn't know how fast these boards actually move here- I noticed front page still have posts from 5 days ago...
I hope to learn a lot and share a lot in time-
I have a Kodak easyshare CX7430 that I have had for 4 years- it is still a pretty good camera although it is now seeming not to "read" the battery- II am not sure, some days I can turn it on and it takes pictures no problem- other days I turn it on and my power light is yellow almost immediately- (full power is green, then yellow to red is no power)
I bought a new set of batteries and a new rechargeable NiMH set- fully charged and all that- still it is acting funny- Figured I'd let one of the kids use it until it dies... For a small pocket camera it is pretty nice but not as slim as the ones they are making now... It is also a 3x optical so not very flexible in shooting although I can change ISO; color mode, B&W, & sepia tone; also, exposure, and a few other things, etc- I guess in all it is a pretty handy camera for even a basic beginner as long as you know what you are doing- I never did use all of the functions it has but I am sure if it continues to work, my 12 or 16 yr old will get a lot of use from it-
I also have a small pentax 35 mm that is about 5 or 6 yrs old- still works great other than it takes physical film... my 10 yr old or 7 yr old can use it on trips w/o us and I won't freak if it falls or something- LOL
My brother has a G9 my mom has the 620 and my Dad has some big DSLR- a few actually and most of them Canons... LOL
Thx again- (Oh! I warned ya guys of the long-windedness) LOL
