Hey All,

I have read most of the posts about this camera. Have not seen to much new data. For those who have it, has it lived up to your expectations in the studio?

I have the 1D MK II and l o v e it. It has more than lived up to my expectations. I especially love it in combo with my canon 50mm/1.4 fixed and my canon 70-200L/2.8. If you are debating the 70-200mm.. all I can offer you is GET IT.

I have a lot of studio work coming up. I need more resolution. I am also thinking about the Canon 85L/1.2. Is this the ultimate lens for this camera for studio work at this point?

Thanks in advance!

Though I am very excited about this camera, it was not my intention to post the title in a way that makes it look as though I am jumping up and down screaming it out. :) Not sure what happened in posting it. I think I cut and paste it into the title and it did not show at first..

Heck if I had a 1D any model, I would be doing the same!

Recommend reading reviews on the 85L. I was swayed to purchase the 85 f1.8 based off of the reviews. Essentially, you're paying a LOT more for 1 stop. AF is a lot slower, significantly more heavy and larger. Image quality differences were ONLY valuable if you expect to use the 1.2-1.8 range.

Thanks. Yeah read the reviews, and am definely still debating my choices. My fix 50/1.4 is the sharpest thing I can shoot with on my 1D MKII. It is splitting hairs, but that is what certain studio work is (literally) all about. My hunch is that when you hold them up side by side when shooting with the specifically 1Ds (at 16.7 mega pix!), you will see the difference. Especially away from the center of the shot. I have poster size work coming up and a client that wants perfection. Might choose to rent it first and see how it holds up against my 50/1.4. I have also hear the 85/1.8 is much faster focus.. if I needed it for sport, I'd go that route for sure.

1DSMKII is a FF sensor, it will use every bit of the lens area (center to edge):
- So it demand better lens from center to edge, so go for L.
- Try 135 f/2L excellent sharpness, fast AF, fast lens, but it is a bit too close.
- 85 f/1.2L is my choose, but also depends what theme that you will shoot.
- 85 f/1.8, from what I hear, it is sharp, fast. But I don't have it so I can't judge the overall performance from center to edge.
- For studio is not just the sharpness, fast AF, but also what the lens can reproduce the colour.
- Try 24-70 f/2.8L , see how it fit your shooting.

Thanks. I have tried the 24-70/2.8. I'd rather be jumping around with my fixed 50/1.4. That or going wider with my 16-35/2.8. I found the 24-70/2.8 a little soft on my camera compared to the 50.. Those of you who love it, please don't jump all over me. I only used it a day. It is on my want list. I am sure it is great match with the full frame 1Ds. I have the 100/2.8 so the overlap with the 135/2 is to close.

Any demanding studio photographers out there with this camera? Is it living up to the 'medium format killer' hype Canon likes to have us believe? What is your choice as the ultimate studio lens for perfect color reproduction and corner to corner sharpness?
