Well, I think I've found the shape!
After getting input from my first thread Critique my prototype logo! (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=660687) I hired a graphic designer, she gave me some concepts which are in my second thread VOTE: Help choose a Logo! (7 to choose) (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=664448)
Using suggestions from forum members, I have given her a direction in which to go. I know which one I like, however everybody has their opinion and I'd like to go with the majority vote.
Let's hear your thoughts!

Not a big fan of any of them, but the taller and skinnier N version (#2) is the best in this set, imo. Sorry to be a downer, Nick :)

what is the name of the company the logo is for?
oh wait, this is for you right?
i'd go with either #1 or #4

Eek!
Out of the 7 votes so far, 4 people don't even like them! Maybe I just cought POTN on a bad day?
Either way I'll hold off finalizing the design until I get more feedback...

Hey if I didn't want honest opinions, I wouldn't bother to ask!

It's a bit too subtle for me, including the choice of colors.

I don't like any of them either, they don't stand out for me and I think of padlocks when I see them

They are a witty overlay to make the 2 letters fit, but it is so refined that it looks more like an icon than a logo.
I would like to see the same idea, but with the "N" either sized larger or smaller... to make it clear at a fast glance that it is a seperate N and S. It would also be nice if there was a whole "letterhead" layout, like with your full name below or something like that. the colors could be more bold, as mentioned.
I like 2 best as well because of the font of the "S" it is a bit more defined to actually be a letter instead of an oval with your "N" in it.

but it is so refined that it looks more like an icon than a logo. I agree. If it's supposed to be part of your "brand", I want it to jump out at me & say "NS. Oh, that's Nick!".

I had to look at it for a bit to see the 'S'. It just gets lost under the 'N'. If it was brighter it might not look so much like a background object, and more like part of the symbol.

I must jump on this bandwagon a little and say none of the above. The 'S' is too subtle. I see some kind of pill on end with an 'N' on it.... I might like #3 if the stroke of the 'S' did not get wider at the top left and bottom right of the 'N'
Taking a glance through your other works- #6 from the 'vote 2' thread was my favorite.. I think the colors work much better.. the dark N in front is easy to see and the brightness of the S also makes it a part of the image...
i got frisky and wanted to see what it would look like... and I just happened to have photoshop open. It's VERY rough, but gets the point across... Tell your graphic designer not to sue me.

Yeah that's my goal actually, an icon more then a logo. With stationary and business cards it will always be followed my by full name or last name. So like you said, if I post a photo online with a watermark then people will (hopefully!) say oh hey I know that icon.
I just didn't want something out of the blue for a logo, but at the same time I didn't want anything camera related.

Nah she's cool, besides I paid her in advance cause she is doing such a good job with her customer service side of things.
But yeah I see what you mean, she gave me these for the "shape" of them, once that is picked out then it'll be down to tweaking colors and what not.
Say my website is black, then I'll need some with the colors inverted so it'll work with white stationary.
