I recently went to a conference to see Alex Lindsay (post production) He talked about Photoshop CS2 upgrade and How he bought a Nikon DSLR and Nikon Capture. I guess these 2 applications work together (This application is to help you tweek your RAW files. I am in the process of buying a Canon EOS 20D, is there any application out there that is similar to the Nikon Capture? and any suggestions on what the best deal is with the 20D?

Thanks! Tella

I find the Canon RAW Photoshop CS plug in (downloadable from the Adobe site, but I do not have the link) to be much better than the native Photohop processing for the initial color temperature and exposure settings, because they can be done in ProPhoto RGB color space. I use it with both my 20D and 1D Mk II. When I had a N*k*n, I never liked NIkon Capture and always used the CS plug in. Others on this site have referenced Camera Raw with Adobe PHotoshop CS by Bruce Fraser, which tells how to use the plug in, and it is worth the price if you are serious about RAW.

i have read the software that comes with the 20D to handle raw is very good - i only have a PRO1 and that uses canon zoombrowser which works well - I also use the photoshop CS RAW plugin from the adobe site.

EOS Viewer Utility, software that comes with the EOS 20D does much the same thing that Photoshop CS does. RAW adjustments are Exposure Compensation (slider), White Balance, White Balance Compensation, Contrast, Color Saturation , Color Tone, BW Filters, Color Space and Sharpness.

If you use EOS Viewer Utility you must remember to take the card OUT OF THE CAMERA and use a card reader. At least that's what the instructions say...page M-17 for Mac users..."Where you have selected a RAW image saved on the card INSIDE the camera nothing is displayed on the RAW Image Adjustment Tool Pallette and the image cannot be adjusted. Work with images saved on your computer from the memory card."
