I have a tendency to over-think things, so please help if you can. I know there is discussion on this topic, but it is all over the place and I need some good advice.
Since buying my Macbook two+ years ago, I have become used to using Iphoto and it is now unusable due to my new 50D RAW file not being recognized. I do not want to upgrade Iphoto as I think this is a bad investment. I also don't believe they will ever upgrade my Iphoto version ('08?) to read the new Canon RAW files because they want me to upgrade.

What would you recommend that I use instead? Lightroom, Aperture or ???.
I know there are a couple of options, but what do you like the best and what would be the most cost effective. I liked the way Iphoto worked, but I'm sure that I was just over comfortable with it and dreaded changing to something better. Now I have to. BTW, I use Photoshop CS2.

Thanks for your input. You all always have the answers!

Hey, I'm not sure of the answer to your question, but just to let you know there is iphoto '09 and it reads RAW files from my 40D without an issue. So if you don't want to change, you could get that. It has some interesting changes as well such as a facebook and flikr button!

Thanks for that info. I am afraid that you have to buy the entire Ilife app. to use the 09 iphoto. That's a lot of program to waste for me. Apple made a codec for the last two iphotos, but not for mine, because it was before ilife. I will have to do something else, i guess. Hope someone has the answer.
