View Full Version : Comments and ratings on for all albums by default in 1.5?

I don't know if this has already been requested and/or is already in the final 1.5. It doesn't hurt to ask, I suppose.

In 1.5 RC4 every time I add an album I have to manually add it to the list of albums that comments and ratings are enabled on. In the final version would it be possible to automatically include ALL exhibitions if the admin so desires and instead have a list to manually EXCLUDE certain albums?

Thanks Pekka!

I think that is a good idea.

Nice idea. Could we at the same time get RSS and trackback support? That would make EE a very strong contender for people that want to put up a photoblog. It would also increase traffic to the site very much.

I think those two are a little beyond what EE is intended to do. There are threads on this forum about integrating EE into Mamba which supports RSS, trackback, etc.

But that's just my opinion. ;)

You're right on.
Why re-invent the wheel? Just make the current wheel you have Z rated!

And everyone is entitled to their opinion :-D

Mambo does not support trackback. It is not a bloggingsystem. It does support RSS, but only for it's own news, not for any wrapped pages. There are no integration with Mambo yet, and it will probably be a long time before that happen. The closest we can get in the near future, might be a bridge. That only make sure that you do not need to log in to both systems, so they can appear as one to the viewer.

RSS in EE would make it easy for anyone to keep track of any changes that appear on your site. It is definitely a traffic booster. And I am sure there are codesnippets available for inclusion in projects like this so you do not have to reinvent the wheel.

Trackback is a more blogspecific function. I know it is not needed for a straight gallery, but sinse I guess Pekka would not mind making EE available for a wider market, trackback might be a good idea. With that, EE would beat the photoblog systems I have seen so far hands down.

It is all about making good tools available to the masses :-D

I see your point. RSS would actually be a nice feature. I was just trying to emphasize that EE is not a blog.

News system in EE will definitely integrate more tightly to the photos and exhibitions - and RSS is very possible (RSS 2.0 seems very easy to implement). Trackback is a different matter, because it is a push protocol - actually EE snippets can do the same much easier. More later.

Maybe you should call 1.5RC4 1.5 final and call the version you're working on 1.6. (Or maybe 2.0? Sounds it is going to be a major revamp)

One more thing Pekka: I found a liitle bug in 1.5RC4.. It is in misc settings.. Even if you chose "Flash" for image display (at the bottom of the misc. confiuration page of gallery/editor/ link), next time when you click on misc. settings it will be still default value (Vanilla)... not a major mistake, but is still annoying:)
