O.K. So, now I've got an awesome photo printer, the Epson Photo 2200. Man is that thing awesome. So, my question is, what is the best paper to use? I got a small sample of the Epson Semigloss photo paper with the printer, and it produces REALLY good results. For proofing and just sharing stuff, I use the regular Epson Premium Glossy photo paper because I can get it dirt cheap at a local warehouse store.

But for quality frameable prints...b/w and color? I ordered some LumiJet Tapestry paper to see how that is, but does anyone have a favorite type, and for what application?

I have the 880, and I have only printed about 6 prints, on glossy (becuase they seem like the film enlargements that I used to do). I have tried the matte too, but the look is too much like water colors to my eyes. Actually, I am going to start printing again at a local shop and I may pay their premium for dye sublimation if I can do a reasoonable job at calibrating my colors.

But your printer is in a different league than mine. The experts below agree with your choice of printer and touch on their experiences with various papers, et al.

I used to have an 880 and it gave totally respectable results. But, after a year with my D30, I decided to step up to a printer that could do the camera justice. Thanks for the link...very informative!

NOTE: I thought I had better include the fact that I am printing images captured with a D30 so people don't wonder why I put a printing question in this forum...

I have the 2200 and have tried a few different papers but none seem to work as well as the epson papers. I use the premium semi-gloss and the enhanced matte for almost everything. The enhanced matte coupled with epson's matte black ink makes for am impressive print.

I have a "sample selection" box of red river papers and the one or two that I've tried seem ok. However, unless I can get well below Epson's price or well above their qualilty, I see little reason to use anthing else. I haven't tried the velvet art or bright watercolor yet but must assume that they are just as good.

I use nothing but Epson paper. I use the regular photo paper for draft and the glossy for scrapbooks etc. The Premium glossy is great and I always enjoy the results. It has been my experience that my digital pictures are clearer and brighter than chemical photos. I use the 1270 printer that will do poster-sized prints and the results for the past year and a half have been outstanding. I think Epson has made improvements on this printer with new jet technology so it might even be better now.

Go with Epson paper! :)
