Hi,
I have ordered a Canon SD1100 IS. Should I get the Extreme III since I live in the Phoenix area and the weather is going to be getting hot! I read that the Extreme III was good for extreme temperatures.
Also, how many gigs would you recommend. Thanks - Gregger

I would say either 4 or 8 is good. I have 2 8 gigs and I barely fill it up.

extremeIII/IV series is perfectly suited for pro cameras that can shoot 6-10 frames per second. as they need the writting speed so the Camera buffer doesn't fill up.
It also comes in handy when you upload the pictures from Camera to Computer. Which would be helpful for you.
I've never read anything about weather conditions w/ relations to camera gear. I've use my stuff at around 10F but any how. It wouldn't be a save thing to leave your stuff in a oven (aka car) over the summer. or out in direct sunlight
how many gb is personally up to you. some use a lot of 1 gb cards, some like to use a few 4s gb. i'd go for 2-3 2 gb if you are just starting out. They make cases for the memory cards too, you might wanna invest in that.
lastly, i own about 15+ cards.. the difference between ultra II and Extreme IV doesn't bother me that much unless i am shoot sports, averaging out around 600-800 pictures a game, where speed matters.
if you're budge is tight there is Nothing wrong w/ UltraII cards!

Unless you plan to leave the camera in the car outside, I don't think you need worry about the temperature range quoted for the various cards. Unless you're planning to shoot a lot of video, a couple of 2 GB cards will be plenty.
