I made it out this morning! First time in 3 months. Though I didn't manage anything stupendous it was a fruitful few hours.
A couple yellowlegs just after dawn. I love the reflections...

Just a swan.

Killdeer. I saw many of these guys, and they didn't seem to mind me too much.

This guy posed for me for quite some time. He didn't care at all. But I think he was teasing me, because he always managed to keep one small branch between us. This was the best of about 20 shots - "best" because it had the smallest branch.

Nice ... love the first one - it almost looks like an island in the sky.
What sort of bird is the last one? Small branches in the front of a bird don't bother me at all, they're just part of the setting (unless, of course, they obscure the face or quite large portions of the body).

Thanks folks. These were all with the 100-400 @ 400. I have no idea at all about that last bird. I took a quick look through Sibley's but couldn't find it. Thus, Justabird. Either that or a Whitebellied Branchlover. :-)

First shot is pure magic! Wow!
The "Justabird" is a Mockingbird or Catbird,.. it is great too. Clearly watching your every move....

And there's a winner with "Mockingbird." I knew it was common, and I was only a page off during one of my flips through Sibley's.
It was definitely good to get back out. I can't wait until the birds get a bit more common. While Parker River is fairly close to home few of the birds are close enough to shoot, so I want to hit some of the better spots.
I'm dying to get some peeps down at Allen's Pond (home of many birds and where Ninja Birder was born). Last year I tried out my 400 for the first time... CDS and I were lying in wait on the beach and the peeps where coming well within 15 feet, but I had the switch set wrong and couldn't focus... Doh! I may have to skip the tree swallows though - both of us spent an hour wading through and kneeling in poison ivy... Not good.

Love the second one! Very pretty. I like how the water drop is comming off his beak. I think it'd be nicer though if the top with all that grass stuff was cropped out.
