Unless you just love your 300, and can stand to hold something much smaller, I'd get the 10D. Nothing wrong with the 10D. I think the useability of the 10D is MUCH better. But your KIT lens, or any EF-S lens will NOT work on the 10D.

If you plan to use EFs lenses, go for 350D. Otherwise go for 10D.

I had a 10D and based on the reviews I would go with a 350D. The turn on / wake up just cost too many action shots. Just my 2 cents worth.

The 10D may be more solid, but the 350D works much faster, and with a greatly improved sensor. As for the custom functions. So what if the 10D has more. If they are a big deal to you look at those the 10D has extra and figure out if you would ever need them. The 10D can use just EF lenses, the 350D can additionally use the EF-S lenses.
I'd take a 350D any time over a 10D.

I have had my 350D for just over 2 weeks now and it beats the 10D in almost every category, I speak with experience as I had (actually still have) a 10D for about 8 months. The 10D is an absolute snail in comparison, 9 frames no matter what.... with a good CF card I can take large jpegs until the card is full, even RAW files on the 350D are a breeze, the buffer seems to empty in seconds. I remember all the pics I missed while I waited for the 10D to wake up, the 350D is ready as soon as I flick the power switch.
Build quality is pretty similar, I'm 6'4" and a long way from skinny and I find the 350D pretty comfortable (after the first day of unfamilarity).
The size and weight are close to what I would consider perfect, I can drop the 350 into a small shoulder bag with an 18-125 zoom and walk all day with it, the 10D used to feel like a lead weight after a few hours.
AF performance with the same lenses is also perceptibly better on the 350, my 28-75 Tamron used to hunt a little on occasions on the 10D, never done it so far on the 350.
For a small light top quality D-SLR, the 350D, IMHO, sets the standard.

I've owned the 10D and now own a 20D and my wife has a 350D XT. If I didn't have the funds to get a 20D and it was a choice between the 350D XT or the 10D, I'd take the XT. Main 2 reasons are the instant startup time and less noise at higher ISO which makes it a little more useable in low light. The images at ISO 1600 are completely useable on the XT whereas on the 10D, I never felt comfortable going beyond ISO 800. Auto focus on the XT also seems to snap into focus a little faster. Overall, the XT is a faster camera to work with IMO.
If you have large hands, you may want to think twice and go play with a XT before committing to it since it is pretty small for a DSLR. I have average sized hands and the size doesn't bother me.
As a final note, I wouldn't feel comfortable buying a used DSLR unless it came with an evaluation period or from someone I trusted. There were a lot of reports of 10D's back focusing, although my 10D and several others I've seen did not exhibit this. If anything, buying a new XT with a Canon warranty should be worth some points in it's favor.
