I thought it may be helpful for people to see results of using the Sigma 1.4 Teleconvertor with the 150-500.
The first two shots are as they came from the camera just cropped to give the same view area and resized. I apologise that it isn't a bird, but couldn't guarantee one remaining static while I changed the lens combo, but it is named Swift so hope that's good enough :D

These are the same shots after a bit of sharpening and contrast adjustment.

There seems to be very little difference in Image Quality, the bare lens just edging ahead but that is to be expected, so it would appear that the multiplier would give you an advantage of a larger image to play with if you run out of length with the standard lens. These were both shot on a tripod, though I have to say it was very windy and the lens was waving around like a twig in a breeze, so the OS seemed to be doing its job.

What method did you use to sharpen the photo (i.e. unsharp mask etc.) - there's a big difference. I've never used the unsharp mask before and just wandering

Yes it is manual focus only with the multiplier, I haven't experimented with the tape pin trick yet.
