Canon 30D - can built in flash fire an off camera 580EXII?

Hello everyone

Just joined this forum - lookd really interesting.

I have my first question as above. Can the built in flash be made to fire my off camera 580EXII?

I have read the manuals but cannot find the answer.

Yes with an optical slave

But it is not very effective because the onboard flash will preflash and so will the 580.

Wein has a "digital" slave that ignores the preflash.

Unfortunately most optical slaves do NOT work with EX flash units. Before spending the money on a Wein digital slave I'd want some assurance it will work with the 580EX.

There is an optical slave at www.flashzebra.com that does work with the EX units but does not ignore the pre-flash.
