the only difference between the two (ONLY) is 3.2 megapixel on the s30 and 4.0 megapixels on the s40. If you want to print bigger than 8x10 go with the s40.

Differences:
-s30 can go up to ISO800 while s40 only up to ISO400
-s30 can capture up tp 3fps in hig speed picture taking, but s40 only up to 2.5fps
-s30 has 10x combined zoom, s40 has 11x
-s30 max resolution 2048x1024, s40 2272x????
Other than that they looked like a twin to me.
Sky? Powershot do have low battery indicator, but there is no power indicator (something like you nokia phone). A red icon will start flashing when the battery is about to die (about 10-20 more picture)

I thought s45 had been announced officially by Canon USA? You can check www.dpreview.com for the news. Try the last 4 weeks.
