View Full Version : HEADIN' TO THE ZOO...

I'm going to be heading down to the San Diego Zoo tomorrow morning to try my hand at some "captive audience" shooting.

My plan is to use, primarily, my 85mm f/1.8. In case the need arises, I'll also have my cheesy Quantary 70-300mm. I don't plan on bringing a tripod as A) I think it'll be plenty bright enough and B) being a nice Spring day, the zoo is likely to be crowded, so I don't need anyone tripping over anything.

I plan to be there when they open at 9:00am.

Anything in particular I should look for, pay attention to, or otherwise be aware of? I've never really tried shooting animals (well, with a camera), so I'd like some tips if anyone has any.

Any other San Diego shooters want to go to the zoo tomorrow?

Um, so I guess nobody's ever taken pictures at a zoo?

Steve,
I think you'll have a great time. Definetly bring the Quantaray along because it provides the right range. My favorite zoo lens is the Canon 75-300 IS and it's plenty long. If things get dim, turn up the iso and shoot wide open. And one more thing.... be sure to post your pics here for us to enjoy! :D

Well, you're assuming that I get something worth posting!

I certainly hope so!

Hi steve. Looks like you and I had the same idea. I went to the Indianapolis Zoo today. I will have some pics posted soon. I think I got one or two keepers.:)
