Here i have 6 pictures that I took on my trip to Mexico this past month. I have the opportunity to enter them into a contest for high school students. I have had my 30d for about 3 months and am fairly new and don't have much experience with editing pictures or what to really look for. There are no rules for the contest. The category is "Digital Photography" and that is pretty much it. I only used Digital Photo Professional on these raw images and could use Gimp or possibly use Photoshop on a friends computer. Any advice on these images would be greatly appreciated. I can only enter one picture so place let me know which has the best potential! Thanks

They are all good...but to me, one stands out...the dog! Love it. Great perspective, nice sky, cute dog. Maybe clone out those powerlines. That is the one I would go with. The last one is a bit of a throw-away option imo. Number 1 would be my second pic. Yeah, those two are great.

Yeah...but it's still interesting to me, and the one that appeals to me most. But what do I know. Anyway, it's real man.

Thanks for the help! Is there anyway to correct the exposure on the dog and the sky in post production? What would I need to do?

In Canon Photo Professional, reduce the exposure value until the highlights aren't blown (if you've sufficient headroom) then use the "curves" adjustment to bring up the shadows and possibly add contrast in the clouds: adding a point that drags the line up faster on the left, and another to drag the line down faster on the right. Having the line steeper on the left and right more quickly changes brightness to moderate levels.
Cheers, Tony
