I am completely new to digital photography, with my tax return I invested in a canon 20D. I figured that since I was going "all out" I should get a flash as well.
I got the Quantaray zoom flash for digital slr cameras. Every shot I have taken has either been completely white, or completely black. I realize this is a broad scoped question but what could I be doing wrong? Does anyone know of any literature that could help me as well. The manuals are very technical to a newbie like myself.

I doubt that there will be very much knowledge here about a Quantaray flash.
For maximum compatibility with a 20D, I would think you would want a Canon 420EX, 550EX, or 580EX flash.

Return the Quantaray which is a cheap version of the Sigma flash sold only at, what, Calumet or something?
Anyway, return it, demand a refund, and get the 580.

Thanks for the advice, I went ahead and returned the quantary and got the 420ex, the 580 was a little steep considering I just got the 20D with a kit lense and a memory card. Needless to say now all of my shots are coming out a lot better.

Get a Sto-fen omnibounce attachment for your new flash...it's a wonderful diffuser that you will use a lot.

Promaster just came out with a revision of their 7500DX Flash. For $220, it's a steal. I have the 7500DX for my Digital Rebel. Just Got the 20D and am getting the 7500DX Version II to support the E-TTL II in the 20D.
Just my opinion though!!
