What is ideal for taking macro shots? I am actually new to taking photos besides the ones that everyone takes of their family. Now I am spending time taking some that I want to be artistic. I dont want to make money from them, just take them and post. I really enjoy taking photos and want to learn to take better ones.

LoL. I am sure that you had to learn new things as you went along. Different technology. But I guess the basics are all still the same.

For flash shots - camera in M mode ISo100, 1/200th F11 is a good place to start.
For natural light shots close to 1:1 use TV or AV modes and keep the shutter speed around 1/200th to 1/320th for handheld shots by adjusting ISO in AV mode. Aperture depends on what type of shots you are trying to take but for normal DOF try to get F8 or smaller again by adjusting ISO. Wider apertures will obviously give shallower DOF and more "arty" type effects. I tend to do natural light shots when there is light cloud cover to give nice diffused light this then tends to mean shooting ISO400/800.
