View Full Version : Which CPL for Tammy 17-50?

Hi, I just got a Tamron 17-50 and I'm really enjoying it.
My intent is to use it for wide angle, nature & landscape photos

I've been very satisfied with B+W products and I plan to purchase a CPL made by B+W. There are a bit pricey though, so if there's a different brand that has comparable quality, I'm open for suggestions :)

I checked on Maxsaver.net (hvstar.net) and found that there's two types of CPLs.

What's the difference between the two?
From what I could tell, thr MRC is multi-coated and the C-POL is not.

Is it worth it to pay for the MRC? The price is drastically different...
Also, please recommend any quality CPL brands that are of similar quality, but less costly.

you'll pay more for a slim filter and you don't need one. i can't comment on those CPLs as i use hoya or kenko, which are significantly cheaper :D.

I've got a Kenko CPL I bought used here on the forums. It works really well.

Regarding the two you mentioned, not sure you really need to be targeting a slim version. I've never noticed any vignetting using my regular sized CPL.

You don't need a slim filter...the standard B+W F-Pro will work just fine. I'd post the link, but it looks like the same link that ed has posted. For only $12 additional, you can get the Kaesemann version of that filter (brass rings, sealed edges). But the standard version is an excellent filter and will last you a very long time.

The CPL is probably the most versatile filter that you can own...you're much better off with a high-quality one.

The price difference is minimal enough that I think I'll stay with B+W

argyle, I don't see the kaesemann version for only $12 additional. It's about $30+ more.
Am I missing something?

It appears now that the promo for this is over, I suggest you get the Kaesemann one with that price difference.

Check Ed's link...the price for the standard F-Pro CPL is $94.50 at hvstar. Then take a look at this link...$106.50 for the Kaesemann:

EDIT: Oops...ed posted a link to a hoya/kenko model. For some strange reason, it looks like all the links on the site use bw82 as a prefix...I thought that this was unique to B+W filters. Anyway, here's the link for the B+W F-Pro CPL MRC, non-Kaesemann version...you'll see that its $94.50:
