I will be buying two D-lites or two FXRi's in a week or so. To complete the set, I wanna know what model of wireless transmitter/reciever would work to fire two strobes on 400D?

Amongst others - Skyport :)

The vast majority of wireless triggers will work, but Skyports will give you an advantage if you choose the BXRi strobes, or if you intend to upgrade to RX in the future, as you will be able to control the modeling light and adjust flash power output from the transmitter.

The FXRi are only available in India as far as I know, and although these have the built in skyport receiver, I cant confirm that you would have the same output and modeling light control from the transmitter. You best check that out with your supplier. Even if not, you still save on buying receivers.

AFAIK, the "Ri" indicates a built-in Skyport receiver - so as Steve already mentioned, a Skyport transmitter would make the most sense. :)

Alrite. Means I only need a Skyport transmitter?

Not if you go for the D-Lites.

The BXRi kits come bundled with a skyport transmitter so you don't have to buy anything separately. It could be the same for the FXRi kits.

Good thinking.

The kits are great value IMHO with everything you need.

If you buy the kit, they come with umbrellas. Great bonus to get you started, give you enough to play with until you can get a better idea through experience.

I just got the BX/Ri 500/500 kit and it comes with softboxes too. Portable, *great* value, versatile. It is a great starting kit that has a vast range of modifiers available and it can grow with my needs.

Okies. Also, do stands come along the strobes or they have to bought seperately?

bought separately. Many, including myself, will recommend the impact 9.5' air-cushioned heavy duty stand available @ B&H for less than $40. (they also have a similar air-cushioned heavy duty stand that is 13' if that suits your needs better)

HERE (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/253069-REG/Impact_LS_96HAB_Air_Cushioned_Heavy_Duty_Light.htm l)

edit: not sure what type of kit you're buying. I just bought the 600RX/600RX kit with just the 2 monolights and the skyport system. No umbrellas/stands/reflectors included. your package may be different, and the only way to tell if light stands are included woudl be to look at the retailers website.

Importing to India is a painin arse. So I will look when I will be buying the lights, most probably next week.

The strobes & skyports you bought are a limited special offer from Elinchrom designed to encourage existing photographers photographers who don't need stands, softboxes, e.t.c., to upgrade to RXs.

All the standard Elinchrom kits come with light stands.

Ahh....I didn't see you were importing from India. When I was travelling there last year, I had always heard (and experienced first hand) that camera gear was cheaper in Nepal/Kathmandu (I got my stuff shipped to Pokhara).....is that an option at all? Might save you a good bit of money.

That, or maybe you can find a cheap flight to Hong Kong? That might also save you money in the overall as well as increase your available selections.

No I am not importing from India, but I am in India and buying anything from BH or ebay.com will be an import to India. Camera acc. cost 32% duty.

Yes, that is why I'm thinking it might be cheaper to fly to Kathmandu/Hong Kong for the weekend and pick the gear up yourself.....better than the 32% duty!

haha....I see. so sounds like my tip wasn't very helpful!

where in India are you located? I think I'd have to say, without a doubt, India is my favorite country in the world (and I've spent 3+ years travelling through 25 or so countries in total in my life....so I've seen quite a few!)

:D.. I am in Patiala, (Punjab). You can see a small picture of my city here (http://www.lovepatiala.com). This is my very own City Portal.

Also, I wanna know something, I have seen manier times that my 400D hunts for focus confirmation in low light. Do the modelling lights of Enlinchrom bright enough that 400D would be Ok to focus?

I didn't have an opportunity to spend as much time in Punjab as I would've liked (it was towards the end of my 3.5 months in India)....but Amritsar was truly amazing and the people of Punjab were some of the friendliest throughout India....and that's saying something!

The modelling light on full power should definitely be able to avoid you hunting for focus.

yep, most of my travel has been photography related.....except for 6 months I spent in Costa Rica and Panama camping on the beach and surfing....no camera then!

Most of that travel photography all ends up as travel stock photography.

ONe question I got in my mind, since I am buying two strobes only, wil I be able to get Pure white BG with one strobe for a full body shot? If so, what modifier will be required?

that'll be difficult to do. If you crank the power up on the background strobe, you'll get part of the background to be blown out highlights, and the other part will be darker and not necessarily white. With a little time in photoshop, you ought to be able to have your light set at a more reasonable level to avoid burning your highlights....and then just a bit of post processing to make it all even.

In the end, 2 lights is pretty necessary for an even white background....and in the end, it seems you can never have enough lights!

oh, and as far as modifiers....I'd probably recommend a wide angle reflector....very simple.

Have you considered using the built-in optical trigger? They work really well provided you are not working in a place where other people are trying to take photos of the same thing you are. So in effect, my 430ex is what 'wirelessly' triggers my bxri and dlite4 units.

I dont have the strobes yet. I will be buying in a week or so. So I want to buy everything to kickstart the strobe experience.
