While looking at old content on my web server, I found these photos of the cargo ship 'Sam Laud' in Benton Harbor / Saint Joseph, MI. July 1, 2007

The timing was perfect. I was rowing my inflatable rowboat around to get some light house shots from out in the lake and the ship was preparing to leave. It was pretty interesting watching a large ship like this go through the drawbridge opening on M-63. It got away from me heading down the river into Lake Michigan.

Here is a nice page of info:

Very nice series, I also think #4 is an awesome capture (low to the water feel).

What they said! Nice series of shots of the light houses, too.

I think the contrast between the little kayak and the huge ship is particularly nice. One only hopes they know how to steer that thing. I live near Toledo, Ohio and we have many lake freighters coming into the port here. They are very impressive ships indeed. You have some very nice shots.

Thanks for the comments. This is why I love my SD550; it's always with me. I don't post many shots from a P&S.

I got very lucky with the kayak. :)
